The Skeiðará Bridge Monument is what is left of the old Ring Road bridge. In 1996, the volcano Vatnajökull erupted, melting glaciers and creating a massive flood. The bridge was built to withstand the floods, just not the house sized Iceberg that came down. These girders are all that is left. Took this with beginnings of the volcano in the distance.
Lómagnúpur at 2,507 ft tall sticks out from the other cliffs along highway 1. Since it has a looming presence, it makes an interesting subject to shoot while driving along. I thught it would be fun to get a shot of it as the road heads straigh for it for long stretches.
Jökulsárlón is a glacier lagoon just off of highway 1 in south Iceland. It is situated off the head of the Breiðamerkurjökull glacier. It houses pieces of glacier ice as they break off and make their way to the Atlantic Ocean. When we visited, the weather was bad. Cold, rainy, windy, and foggy. Made it tough to get any good shots.
